CONTEXT

During my internship with MedFilo Inc., I acted as a mobile and web designer of the startup's Healthbook app. I participated in polishing existing designs of the new application, as well as building new screens ready to handoff.

GOALS

The internship's goals were as following:

1

Develop visual branding and template design system that future designers and developers can reference and use.

2

Design an intuitive and organized tool for parents and guardians to easily keep track of their children's medical history.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Towards the end of the 12-week period, I had achieved and learned so much.

Here are some contributions I made during the internship:

1

Refined, developed, and completed the existing design system.

2

Iterated and prototyped 40+ screens and handed it off to the developers'.

3

Suggested and implemented a new feature that was not originally incorporated before.

4

Participated in the refinement process of the organizational website.

LEARNING & REFLECTION

My internship with MedFilo truly helped me grow as a designer, with the chance to continuously refine and apply my skills. I once again recognized the importance of foundational design principles, and improved in aspects of product thinking, teamwork collaboration, and balancing needs.

Here are some key points I learned through this experience!

My Design is Never "Perfect"

I learned that there is always room for improvement and I should stay humble of my work. Feedback is a valuable asset that can help me further improve, and so I should always take the chance to listen.

Communication is Key

During the internship, I realized how my response can become a factor to a decision that drives the team's direction. Communicating clearly, directly, and as soon as possible is what keeps the whole team moving.

Take Time to Understand Other Roles

Working closely with the developer teams provided me a different perspective in how products are created and shipped, as well as how learning their lingo can help expedite the communication process between teams. This way, the level of completion is higher.
